10 Kukis MLAs submitted a memorandum Prime Minister Narendra Modi

As the situation in Manipur remains tense, 10 MLAs submitted a memorandum Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking creation of separate posts of similar to chief secretary, and director general of police (DGP) for efficient administration of the five hill districts in Manipur.

The 10 MLAs from the Kuki-Zomi communities including seven from the BJP submitted the letter to Modi on Wednesday.

Meanwhile political war erupted in the state over the memorandum seeking 'separate administration'. Forty MLAs from the violence-hit state wrote to PM demanding withdrawal of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) Agreement with Kuki militant groups and implementation of NRC in the state.

According to them, the ‘separate administration’ sought by Kuki groups was unacceptable.

"It is pertinent to mention that even IAS and MCS (Manipur civil service) officers and IPS and MPS (Manipur police service) officers belonging to the Kuki-Zo tribes have been unable to function and discharge their duties as Imphal Valley has also become a valley of death for us," the MLAs said in their three-page memorandum.

"In order to solve the problems faced by government employees belonging to Kuki-Zo tribes and for efficient administration of the districts inhabited by us, the post of chief secretary or its equivalent post and the post of DGP or equivalent post need to be immediately created," the letter read.

Other key senior-level posts in the civil and police departments were also sought by them. The legislators also sought Rs 500 crores from the PM's Relief Fund for rehabilitation of the Kuki-Zomi people who have been displaced or lost their homes and livelihoods due to the clashes.

Around 50,000 people from both communities are staying in relief camps.

Meanwhile, eight firearms and 112 rounds of ammunition were recovered from different districts of violence-hit Manipur during search operations by security forces.

Forces also seized six explosives, police said.

The recoveries were made on Wednesday from Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi and Imphal West districts, the police said in a statement.
