Imphal to Jiribam railway service to be operated starting November of 2022

Junior Railway Minister Darshana Zardosh said in Manipur on Thursday that the 111-km Imphal-Jiribam railway project is 50 percent complete and the long-distance coach passenger service to Kongsang will start service by September. The Union Minister of State said that the North East Frontier Railway (NEFR) has started installing early warning systems in trains and stations in the state for hazards like landslides.  Last month, a massive landslide hit a railway station under construction in Marangching, Noney district, killing 61 people, most of whom were territorial soldiers. “The double-engine government is committed to giving Manipur a world-class railway service,” said the minister.

She also stated that the railway is discussing to develop picnic spots and lodging facilities along the railway route to enhanced tourism  as the railway reaches the Northeast state. "The development of such tourist spots will attract tourists as well as filmmakers. The proposed tourist spots may further be upgraded to the level of film locations, as India is one of the highest film-producing countries," she added.
